Problems/Comments
This site was formerly a Texaco gas station. In 1989 six underground storage tanks (4 gasoline, 1 heating oil, and one used oil) were removed. Gasoline, diesel, and used oil contaminated soils were encountered during the tank removals. 500 cubic yards of contaminated soil was removed and treated/disposed of at AS&G and Anchorage Regional Landfill. In 1991 the fuel dispensers and piping were removed along with two old hydraulic lifts, a floor sump, and an old floor sump/septic log crib along with 300 tons of contaminated soil that was thermally treated at ASR. Groundwater is estimated to be at 35 feet below ground surface at this site. A conditional closure letter was issued on July 2, 1997. The letter noted that some contamination remains under the building foundation near a former log crib and the hydraulic hoists. When those (used oil and PCE) contaminated soils are accessible they are to be removed and properly assessed and treated.
