Problems/Comments

Two USTs that were part of building floor drain effluent systems and oil water separators were removed in 2001. These two tanks had observed soil contamination. Four other USTs were removed that didn't show signs of contamination. The two impacted tanks were Tank numbers 3 and 4. Tank four removal didn't encounter groundwater. The tank 3 removal encountered groundwater in the excavation. A grab sample showed low level DRO contamination in water. Both tanks have low moderate petroleum levels remaining in soil (1000 - 3,500 mg/kg DRO). Investigation of the six tanks removed in 2001 continued with other Navy investigations On Amchitka, which are documented in the site Amchitka - Navy (Hazard ID 1331). The USTs associated with this database entry are associated with the following sites: Amchitka - Navy A-11 WO Tank 5 (Hazard ID 27915) Amchitka - Navy A-19 WO Tank 6 (Hazard ID 27917) Amchitka - Navy A-9 WO Tank 1 (Hazard ID 27916) Amchitka - Navy B-6 WO Tank3 (Hazard ID 27918) Amchitka - Navy F-4 WP Tank 4 (Hazard OD 27919) This record will be retained as an Informational Status for record-keeping consistency.

The focus of the RASR was to summarize the history and status of each site individually, address unresolved Response to Comments (RTCs), including data gap assessment and figures with a compilation of site data, and make site specific recommendations regarding further actions. The ADEC approves the RASR but is not in agreement with all recommendations in the report, as documented in the RTCs Table dated June 2021. Based on the available information, the ADEC agrees that there are 22 locations that do not qualify as contaminated sites, and no further action will be required at these locations unless new information is discovered that indicates a significant release is present.
