Problems/Comments

A 300-gallon gasoline underground storage tank (UST) was removed in 1993. FNSB (previous owner) will be responsible for UST cleanup according to agreement. City of Fairbanks currently owns property. Soil and groundwater impacted. Ten cubic yards contaminated soil thermally treated in 1994. Samples in 1997 show high levels of benzene (361 micrograms per liter (ug/L)) in the groundwater. Shannon & Wilson suggest that contamination may be part of Goldpanner Chevron plume (File No. 102.26.063). File review and site visit by ADEC staff conclude that the contamination detected is most likely from the former UST. Monitoring requested for summer 2007.
