Problems/Comments

Gas and Diesel contaminated soil was detected in 1997 and 1998 in the immediate vicinity of the UST systems. Some soil was excavated in 1997 and hauled to an ADEC approved soil treatment facility in Anchorage. An in-situ soil vapor extraction treatment system was installed and operated. Groundwater contamination was not detected above ADEC cleanup levels. In 2005, the UST systems were decommissioned and replaced with new UST systems. Additional soil contamination was excavated and transferred to an ADEC approved soil treatment facility in Anchorage. In August 2006, ADEC received the 2005 September Underground Storage Tank Closure Site Assessment Final (Revised) report, and based on the information provided in that report, the site was determined to be eligible for site closure. (Updated 9/6/06, Paul Horwath)

1/10/2006 Institutional Control Record Established The institutional control consists of this data base notation that residual soil contamination remains at this site, as well as the ADEC NFRAP determination letter which requires additional release investigation and cleanup work at the time the UST systems are removed. (The UST systems were replaced in 2005, so ADEC is currently awaiting the required report covering additional assessment and cleanup work.) Paul Horwath
4/10/2006 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other Reviewed the January 2006 MWH UST closure site assessment report. Errors in the data tables need to be corrected and the soils that were treated at ASR in Anchorage weren't tested for GRO & BTEX. Awaiting a new submittal that will address these deficiencies prior to further processing of the project. PDH Paul Horwath
9/6/2006 Institutional Control Record Removed Additional site assessment and cleanup work performed at the time of UST system removal from August 23 to September 6, 2005, and the MWH report covering this work indicate that the soil and groundwater at this site meet the applicable ADEC soil cleanup levels. No institutional control is necessary at this time. Paul Horwath
9/6/2006 Site Closure Approved Review of the August 2006, MWH report titled 2005 September Underground Storage Tank Closure Site Assessment Final (Revised), supports the issuance of a Site Closure determination. Additional soil contamination was removed from this site, and post-cleanup confirmation soil sampling at the site was sufficient to conclude that the applicable ADEC soil cleanup levels have been attained. Therefore the site meets the requirements for final, unconditional closure. Paul Horwath
10/25/2006 Update or Other Action Using Figures 1 and 2 from the 2005 September Underground Storage Tank Closure Site Assessment, Final, from Montgomery Watson Harza, dated August 2006, in conjunction with TopoZone Pro and the KPB Parcel Lookup, entered the coordinates for this site. Metadata includes, No Topo Basemap, Black and White Aerial Photo, TopoZone Pro Street Maps, on a Medium Size Map, View Scale 1:9,840, Coordinate Datum NAD83. High degree of confidence in accuracy of location. Alyce Hughey
