Problems/Comments

Petroleum contamination at site due to historic fuel spills and substantial offsite contamination that encroached on the AKARNG property. This contamination was a result of a ruptured fuel line at the adjoining village tank farm LYSD and subsequent flooding. There are three potential areas of contamination/spills. Area 1 was on the west side of the FSA where a 450-gallon fuel spill occurred and surface staining was observed. Area 2 involved the leak of a 55-gallon drum of Jet A fuel in 1992 also on the west side of the FSA. Area 3 was a 40-foot fuel transfer pipeline located on FSA property that connected the fuel storage tanks to the village tank farm. Although a cleanup at the site is pending, substantial data has been collected and the soil and groundwater contamination plumes have been documented. Cleanup levels to include alternative cleanup levels for the migration to groundwater pathway are currently under review.
