Problems/Comments

This site includes the former vehicle pump area and multiple USTs that were removed from the adjacent living quarters area. One unleaded (and possibly leaded) UST and pump house was removed from the former vehicle pump area in 1994. Approximately 43 cubic yards of potentially contaminated soil was excavated. The UST was approximately 10 feet northwest of the pump house. Eight confirmation soil samples were collected from the limits of the excavation and from beneath the dispenser location. The soil samples were analyzed for DRO, GRO, BTEX and lead. All soil samples results were below ADEC Cleanup levels. Groundwater samples were collected and analyzed for BTEX and GRO from four probes; lead and DRO samples were analyzed from one of the probes. GRO and DRO were non-detectable, and BTEX compounds were reported as below MCLs; however, the lead result (0.21 mg/L) (GP-27) did exceed the MCL (0.015 mg/L). In 1997, four groundwater probes were installed approximately 30’, 75’, 90’, and 100’ hydraulically downgradient (south) of the Former Vehicle Fuel Pump Area and sampled for lead only. Samples results from the groundwater probe indicated levels of 17, 24, 63 and 75 ug/L lead. In 1994, multiple USTs from the Cordova FAA Living Quarters area were decommissioned. UST 35-F-2 was an unregulated, steel, single wall, 850 gallon capacity, heating oil (diesel) UST located near the southeast corner of living quarters Building 107. 35-F-2 was installed in 1962, and was removed in September, 1994. Contamination was detected using visual observation, odor, and screening at the bottom of the excavation. UST 35-F-3 was an unregulated, steel, single wall, 500 gallon capacity, heating oil (diesel) UST located near the northeast corner of living quarters Building 102. 35-F-3 was installed in 1962, and was removed in September, 1994. Contamination was detected using visual observation, odor, and screening at the bottom of the excavation. UST 35-F-4 was an unregulated, steel, single wall, 500 gallon capacity, heating oil (diesel) UST located near the northeast corner of Living Quarters Building 101. 35-F-4 was installed in 1962, and was removed in September, 1994. Contamination was detected using visual observation, odor, and screening at the bottom of the excavation.
