Site Characterization Workplan Approved |
Reviewed work plan funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Boreholes will be advanced at the site to delineate the extent of pteroleum contamination at the former USTs, piping, and dispensers. Groundwater is located approximately 100-120 feet bgs and will only be sampled if soil contamination is present to that depth. Potable well samples will be collected from the onsite well and also from 4 other wells in the area. Once delineation is complete, excavation of contaminatied soil is anticipated for spring 2010 |

Site Characterization Report Approved |
Reviewed the 2009 Site Charaterization Report. Sixteen boreholes were advanced and sampled and potable water samples were collected from 4 drinking water wells on nearby properties. Up to 4 soil samples were collected from each borehole based on field screening results. Contaminants were detected above Method Two migration to groundwater cleanup levels in four of the boreholes. Benzene was not detected in any of the samples however the MRL was elevated above the cleanup level in two of the samples. Drinking water samples collected from four nearby wells did not contain detectable concentrations of contaminants. Generally soil contamination is limited to two discrete areas, one area south of the former USTs and another area north of the former dispensers. The area near the dispensers consists of DRO contamination up to 539 mg/kg at a depth of approximately 5-7 feet bgs, while the area near the former USTs has DRO up to 5,720 mg/kg and GRO up to 1,500 mg/kg at a depth of 10-12 feet bgs. Boreholes were advanced as deep as 42 feet and did not encounter groundwater. The static water level in nearby wells is approximately 120 feet bgs. |

Cleanup Complete Determination Issued |
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Contaminated Sites Program (ADEC) has completed a review of the environmental records associated with the Healy Mountain View Liquor and Grocery located at the corner of Coal Street and Healy Spur in Healy, Alaska. Based on the information provided to date, it has been determined that the contaminant concentrations remaining on site do not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment, and no further remedial action will be required as long as the site is in compliance with established institutional controls. |
