Problems/Comments
A 3,000-gallon gasoline and a 3,000-gallon diesel underground storage tank (UST) at facility have been out-of-service since September 1985. Change to non-use notification received 12/3/1993 states that both tanks were leaking; site assessment needed. This site had a large spill in the early 1980s to which DEC responded. Source of fuel contamination was suspected to be Q-Trucking. A legal settlement between the State of Alaska and Q Trucking occurred as a result of this spill.

6/26/2007 | Update or Other Action | ADEC conducted a site visit. During the site visit no visual sheening was identified in the surface water bodies located adjacent to the site. All the people in the area are on City water which comes from a surface water body several miles from town. Documentation in the file states that both of the tanks have been pumped of fuel and are no longer in use. This site requires a site assessment due to the fact that the tanks are considered "Tanks Out-Of-Service". In the 1980's there was a historical release that was estimated to be over 50,000 gallons but the source of the release is not clear. Once the tanks are removed from the ground and a site assessment is performed, ADEC can determine if the LUST site was the source of the contamination or there is another source responsible for the release. | Deborah Williams |
