2/20/2002 Site Closure Approved Closure of this site was approved with signing of the decision document on February 20, 2002. This site was closed under Method 2. Pathways of exposure were soil ingestion and soil inhalation. Contaminants of concern were petroleum and cadmium. Site cleanup consisted of removal of 180 55-gallon drums, 9 of which contained product, removal of associated stained soil, removal of soil with a tar-like substance, demolition and removal of an old maintenance building, and removal of radio battery debris and a small volume of associated soil. Following cleanup, the maximum concentration of cadmium at the battery removal area was 14 mg/kg, which is below the Method 2 cleanup level of 100 mg/kg. Following removal of the soil with a tar-like substance, an area of about 100 square feet still had 41,000 mg/kg total petroleum hydrocarbons, but did not contain and volatile or semi-volatile compounds. The lubrication pit in the former maintenance building had a maximum detection of 491 mg/kg total petroleum hydrocarbons and did not require cleanup. No volatile or semi-volatile compounds were found in the lubrication pit. Tamar Stephens
10/29/2002 Site Number Identifier Changed Workplan changed from X1 to X9 due to the presence of cadmium as a contaminant of concern. Sequence number changed from 04 to 02. Former Staff
