Problems/Comments
In May 93, tanks #6 & 13 were removed. Tank 13 was a regulated 500 gallon diesel UST used to run the adjacent generator. Tank 6 was a non regulated 1500 gallon heating oil UST located adjacent to the Minimum Security Houseing building C-Wing. Approximately 100 Yds3 of DRO contaminated soil was removed from both excavations and placed in a lined treatment cell. Groundwater was not encountered in either excavation. From other studies at the facility, GW is about 300 feet bgs or greater, although perched aquifers may be encountered at shallower depths. Tank 6 was clean closed. Tank 13 had one detection of 1080 mg/kg DRO at about 8' the structural integrity of the generator shed. Further excavation was not recommended. Gilfililian Engineering, Inc. recommended NFA determinations for both excavations.

6/24/1993 | Underground Storage Tank Site Characterization or Assessment | Received the UST Removal Assessment report for Tanks 6 & 13. Tank 13 was a 500 gallon diesel UST used to fuel the generator. Tank 6 was a 1500 gallon heating oil UST adjacent to the C-Wing Minimum Security Housing. Approximately 100 yds3 of contaminated soil was placed in a lined passive treatment cell nearby. Tank 6 was clean closed. Tank 13 had a single detection of DRO @ 1080 mg/kg located adjacent to the genterator building foundaiton @ 8'-9'bgs. Further excavation would have affected the structural integrity of the generator building. No GW encountered. DW wells at the facility are at a depth of greater than 300' bgs, although perched water layers may be encountered at shallower depths. Gilfilian Engineering, Inc. recommended NFA actions for both locations. | Alyce Hughey |

No further action is required for this tank site. After discussions with the consultant and review of additional data/photos, the Department approved a no futher action determination for the heating oil UST(tank 13) site also. The Department conceptually approved passive remediation for the 100 yds3 stockpiled soils. Addressing the contaminated soil stockpile is the only issue remaining at these sites to achieve full site closure. | Alyce Hughey |
5/19/1998 | Update or Other Action | Jim Frechione changed workplan from LUST (00) to CS (01) | Alyce Hughey |
12/2/2002 | Update or Other Action | Updated latitude and longitude based on coordinates supplied by Mike Crotteau of the Wellhead Protection Program as digitized using plat and/or orthophoto maps. Former Coordinates derived from the USGS Place Name Utility gave the City of Palmer as the location. | Alyce Hughey |
4/7/2008 | Site Closure Approved | Don Seagren issued a site closure for this site based on Mike Krieber 10/28/1993 review of the Phase II Site Assessment, discussions with the consultant and review of additional data/photos, the department approved at that time no further action determination for the heating oil UST tank 13. | Alyce Hughey |
4/16/2008 | Update or Other Action | File number 2245.26.026 assigned and entered into the Fileroom Database and the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Database.l | Alyce Hughey |
