Problems/Comments
Four USTs (two-12,000 gallon gas USTs, a 5,000 gallon gas UST and a 5000 gallon diesel UST) and associated piping was removed June 2007. Ten soil samples taken at the depths of the excavation at 11 feet below ground surface (bgs) were non detect for petroleum constituents. Four soil samples taken 1.5 to 2.0 feet bgs beneath former fuel islands and associated piping indicate the precense of contamination, but well below ADEC cleanup levels. 1.3 cubic yards of visually stained soil was removed from the dispensers at the former fuel island. A test pit dug at 16 feet bgs did not encounter groundwater. Excavated soil stockpiled was not field screened or sampled.

12/9/2008 | Update or Other Action | DEC staff contacted Emerald Services as well as Alaska Soil Recycling to determine if the 1.3 cubic yards of contaminated soil were ever treated. Both businesses did not have any documentation confirming the receipt of contaminated soil. | Todd Blessing |
4/15/2009 | Cleanup Complete Determination Issued | Following DEC’s review of EMI”s “Underground Storage Tank Site Assessment & Removal/Closure Report” dated July, 2007, DEC has determined no further assessment or cleanup action is required. The levels of contaminants of concern detected in soil do not exceed ADEC’s most stringent cleanup levels established in 18 AAC 75.341 Tables B1 and B2. Groundwater is not believed to be impacted since soil was determined to be clean beneath the UST at 12 feet bgs and groundwater is estimated to be 20 feet bgs in this area. Therefore, there is no longer a risk to human health or the environment, and this site will be designated as closed. | Todd Blessing |
4/15/2009 | Leaking Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Initiated - Petroleum | 3/14/11- Administrative action addition for reporting purposes. | Bianca Reece |
