Problems/Comments
Site was utilized during construction of Alyeska Pipeline. Observed soil staining in various locations throughout the pad. Suspected buried wastes. ADNR has submitted this site to be assessed using the MOA between ADEC and ADNR. A phase I assessment is planned for 1995 to determine the extent of contamination. (MOA - FY95 = $45K)
Action Information
Action Date | Action | Description | DEC Staff |
---|---|---|---|
3/13/1995 | Site Added to Database | Soil staining. | Scott Rose |
10/1/1995 | Site Characterization Workplan Approved | Site investigation workplan was approved and conducted during October 1995. Contamination was identified that warranted additional investigation. | Jim Frechione |
10/12/1995 | Preliminary Assessment Approved | Term Contractor (E&E) was contracted to perform a preliminary assessment on this site. Site is a DNR Memorandum of Agreement site. | Scott Rose |
4/21/1998 | Site Ranked Using the AHRM | Ranking action added now because it was not added when the site was originally ranked. | Bill Petrik |
10/1/1998 | Site Characterization Report Approved | Additional areas of contamination were identified that exceed the most stringent migration to groundwater levels. However, risk based cleanup levels may be applicable due to the remote nature of the site. | Jim Frechione |
12/8/1999 | Update or Other Action | ADNR owns and manages the property. They objected to the use of risk based cleanup levels because of the effect higher contaminant levels have on the value of the property. | Jim Frechione |
12/13/1999 | Update or Other Action | ADEC letter to Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. regarding need for additional information and request of landowner (ADNR) to require most stringent cleanup levels. ADEC requests Alyeska intentions on this matter. | Jim Frechione |
1/8/2001 | Update or Other Action | ADEC received a letter from Alyeska. IT completed a soil boring at the Isabel Pass Camp to confirm the depth to groundwater. According to the soil boring logs that were submitted with the letter, no groundwater was found down to 50' below ground surface. | Deborah Williams |
1/12/2001 | Institutional Control Record Established | Institutional Controls Established for the site. | Deborah Williams |
1/12/2001 | Conditional Closure Approved | ADEC issued a no further remedial action on this site. Alyeska paid for additional sampling in order to receive a NFRAP determination. The fact that no groundwater was detected 0 - 50' below ground surface, was applied to the October 2000 soil attenuation model using the maximum soil contamination identified at the site. It was concluded that the soil contaminant concentrations would not pose a risk to groundwater and other possible pathways (ingestion and inhalation). | Deborah Williams |
11/5/2003 | Update or Other Action | Changed Justification to "N" because the site is in NFRAP Status. | Former Staff |
12/1/2011 | Update or Other Action | The current project manager chose to retain management of this site with the Cleanup Complete Determination that has Institutional Controls. | Kristin Thompson |

3/2/2016 | Institutional Control Compliance Review | IC compliance review conducted. Scheduled to send an IC reminder letter in the near future. | Nathan Maxwell |
4/13/2017 | Institutional Control Compliance Review | Follow-up IC compliance review conducted. Contacted ADNR to verify the current lessee of this property. Will issue a reminder letter once the lessee is confirmed. Reminder system set to check back in two months. | Kristin Thompson |
6/25/2019 | Institutional Control Compliance Review | IC compliance review completed and a reminder letter was issued to Alyeska Pipeline Services Company and the DNR Pipeline Coordinator was copied. The next IC review will be in five years' time. | Evonne Reese |
7/9/2019 | Institutional Control Compliance Review | Received an IC confirmation letter from the responsible party acknowledging the IC requirements. All ICs are in compliance. | Mossy Mead |
