Problems/Comments
The National Park Service performed over-excavation and remediation of contaminated soils associated with the fuel oil AST and associated distribution lines. Approximately 60 cubic yards of DRO contaminated soil were excavated from the site of the single wall AST and its associated piping. Contamination was sporadic, therefore the frequency of the field screening was increased from one event for every 5 cubic yards to every cubic yard of soil removed. When the limit of excavation was reached, confirmation samples were taken from each side wall and one from the floor of the excavation. One wall sample at the interface with the asphalt drive way had a confirmation sample of DRO of 2000 mg/kg. All other soils were clean.
