Problems/Comments
The former Bulk Oil Storage Pump and Valve House Building 604 site controlled the flow of heating oil and diesel fuel to tanks and trucks from the former bulk storage tank system. Approximately 50 cubic yards of fuel-contaminated soil were removed in July 1997. Four soil boring were installed at the former Pump House Building 604 site. Contaminated soil that was encountered during the installation of the soil borings was excavated to a depth of approximately 10 feet. Contaminated soil was detected at levels up to 11,000 ppm DRO at 55' bgs at SB001 but levels below 55' bgs decreased to 17 ppm at 78' bgs. Contaminated soil was also detected at 9,300 ppm DRO at SB004, but a sample collected at 84' bgs was 14 ppm.

| 7/23/2015 | Update or Other Action | DEC issued a determination to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding the maintenance of closure conditions at four contaminated sites at the Big Delta FAA Station. Following correspondence with the US Army, the landowner of the sites, it was determined that the FAA Big Delta sites had been integrated into the Ft. Greely Land Management System, and that the land management system’s protocols ensured that the closure conditions at the FAA Big Delta sites would be maintained. Therefore, The US Army has demonstrated to the Department’s satisfaction that processes are in place that ensures future site users that the residual contamination is defined on planning maps and will be taken into consideration when any future construction projects in the area are planned.
