Final Work Plan, Federal Aviation Administration, Decommissioning and Investigation, FAA Station Fort Yukon, April 30, 2013. Plan includes a scope of work for the Yukon Flats Health Center (YFHC) and the Quarters Building 100. Contaminants of potential concern include GRO, DRO, RRO, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX), and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). At Building 100, DRO has impacted the groundwater and is present in soil above the outdoor air cleanup level. Scope of work includes conducting groundwater sampling to assess petroleum constituents in one monitoring well at each site, assess remaining soil concentrations at the former HOT excavations, and decommission the remediation equipment including SVE and AI wells. Decommissioning activities includes removal and shipment of blower buildings and blowers to Anchorage. |

Final Report Federal Aviation Administration Decommissioning and Investigation
FAA Station Fort Yukon, November 2013. Report documents the activities and findings of the groundwater and soil sampling and well decommissioning activities performed from June 28 to July 1, 2013. Three wells and two monitoring points were decommissioned at Building 100. Two wells and three monitoring points were decommissioned at the YFHC. Soil samples showed DRO contamination remains in the subsurface soil at the former UST area of concern. DRO contamination greater than the ADEC migration to groundwater cleanup level remains in the soil at Building 100. DRO contamination in groundwater greater than the ADEC groundwater cleanup level remains in the Building 100 AOC. DRO contamination also remains in the soil at the YFHC at concentrations greater than the ADEC migration to groundwater cleanup level. |

Site Characterization Workplan Approved |
Final work plan received on June 27, 2023. This document details the work planned for the Fort Yukon site to take place this July. The sampling efforts will further assess contamination at the Former Living Quarters Building 100 UST 9-C-07 with the installation of a new monitoring well to define the groundwater flow to the north/northeast of the building. Soil samples will be taken from the monitoring well boring and groundwater samples will be taken from the three existing wells and the newly installed monitoring well.
The work plan also details the decommissioning of monitoring well MW04 located at Shop Building 300 Former Drum Storage Area. DEC notes that this area was never added to the contaminated sites database as contamination was not found above cleanup levels at this location. |

Site Characterization Report Approved |
The document details work done at FAA’s Fort Yukon Facility near buildings 100 and 300. Work was done to delineate contamination and continue long-term monitoring of groundwater at Former Quarters Building 100 UST 9-C-07. A monitoring well, MW04, at Shop Building 300 Drum Storage Area was also successfully decommissioned.
At Building 100 a new monitoring well, MW05, was installed in a boring advanced to 20 feet below ground surface. Soil samples from the groundwater interface and from the area with the highest PID screening result from this boring were analyzed for GRO, DRO, RRO, and VOCs. All results were below cleanup levels. Groundwater sampling from MW01, MW03, and MW05 were analyzed for GRO, DRO, RRO, and VOCs. MW02 was not sampled as it was frozen. Groundwater exceeded cleanup levels for DRO at MW01 and chloroform at MW05. This report recommended continued groundwater monitoring to analyze contaminant concentration trends and see if chloroform is present in MW05 again.
