Problems/Comments

Diesel Range soil contamination was found at the Kenai Gas Field Pad 43-32 during a final site assessment performed on the pad after the cleanup of approximately 300 cubic yards of contaminated soil, that was stored in poly bags, and were removed back in 1994. The remaining soil contamination has not been determined if it is historical, or is a result of the poly bags being stored on the pad. Further site assessment work is needed in order to assess the full extent of the contamination at Kenai Gas Field Pad 43-32. This site was being worked by the Prevention and Emergency Response Program, formerly known as the Greenpeace Spill, ADEC Reckey Number 1994-23-01-174-01.

4/10/2013 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other Reviewed the Fall 2012 Reserve Pit Assessment Soil Borings - Barium Analysis, dated December 21, 2012, prepared by Weston Solutions. On October 25, 2012 two soil borings were advanced in the vicinity of past (1994 and 1996) sampling locations that had elevated concentrations of diesel-range organics in an effort to characterize the contaminated soils as drill muds or diesel contaminated soils. One soil sample collected in the area of the closed reserve pit KU 21-32 identified drill mud contaminated soil at a depth of 4.5 feet with barium at 6,800 mg/kg. The other sample collected on the pad did not indicate the presence of drill mud with barium at 38 mg/kg. Based on all the samples collected and analyzed at this site from 1994 to 2012, DRO impacted soil does remain in the area of the former stockpiled soils exceeding the ADEC migration to groundwater soil cleanup levels. Sample collected in 1994, KGF-7 at 1 to 1.5 feet bgs with DRO at 1,900 mg/kg, and sample collected in 1996, SL-4 at 3 feet bgs with DRO at 839 mg/kg. Alyce Hughey
4/10/2013 Exposure Tracking Model Ranking A new updated ranking with ETM has been completed for source area 78794 Natural Gas Drilling Muds. Alyce Hughey
6/30/2015 Cleanup Complete Determination Issued Contamination considered de-minimis for this historical natural gas drilling pad, based on concentrations detected, and the remoteness of this site. Site is being closed. IF more significant contamination is reported as some future time, the site could be reopened at that time. No formal closure decision document issued. This site was inherited from PERP, due to faulty, long term storage of natural gas condensate contaminated soil, which had been stored in supersacs. Those soils were property disposed of long ago.
