Problems/Comments

Two 3,000-gallon underground storage tanks (USTs) (DEC Tank IDs 1 and 2) were removed on August 20, 2009. Tanks were reported to contain aviation gasoline and potentially kerosene at some time. Contamination was found in soil at the bottom of the excavation above cleanup levels for gasoline range organics (GRO) and toluene, however, laboratory analysis used the wrong methods therefore the detection limits were extremely high and exceeded some DEC cleanup levels. The report is incomplete; it is missing sample locations. Sampling for all contaminants of concern per the UST Procedures Manual and soil screening were not performed. The UST Program has requested that a complete site characterization be sent to the Contaminated Sites Program.
