Problems/Comments

In July, 2010 during the removal of a 5,000-gallon dual purpose (heating & emergency generator) diesel underground storage tank (UST #1), diesel was found to be leaking from the manway and fill pipe connection during overfilling. Approximately 70 cubic yards of contaminated soil were removed and stockpiled on a bermed liner pending treatment and disposal at Organic Incineration Technology, Inc. (OIT). Soil was excavated until bedrock was encountered. Field screening photoionization detector (PID) readings from the base of the excavation indicated petroleum compounds remaining at 350 parts per million (ppm). Laboratory analytical results were not yet available.
