Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other |
DEC received the well installation and groundwater monitoring report for the work done during September 2010. Contamination with DRO and benzene in groundwater was above cleanup levels. DRO was found at levels up to 17 ppm (higher than any other groundwater samples collected throughout the airport in 2010). GRO was detectable but below cleanup levels. Conceptual site model submitted did not include groundwater and surface water ingestion as complete pathway; DEC requested revision of the CSM. |

Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other |
DEC reviewed the "September 2012 Groundwater Monitoring Report" which summarized the results of groundwater monitoring by OASIS Environmental, Inc. Groundwater flow direction was to the East. DRO and benzene concentrations remained above the ADEC cleanup levels in groundwater at MW-2 and MW-3. No trends in concentrations were apparent when compared to past sample results. OASIS recommended no further remedial action. |

Meeting or Teleconference Held |
DEC met with Penny Adler, Sam Myers, and Mike McCarroll at DOT to discuss contamination associated with the Kotzebue Airport. During the meeting, DEC discussed what is known about petroleum-contaminated water and migration to the Kotzebue Sound and the Lagoon. DEC is no longer investigating the contamination through state funding, and will be working with lease lot RPs to identify the sources of contamination and attempt to cleanup contamination through source removal. Lease agreements, lease lot histories, and deterrents to investigations were discussed. |

Meeting or Teleconference Held |
ADEC staff met over a teleconference with Crowley staff and their QEP to discuss progress at both sites and how to progress. Lot M, Block 1 requires additional site characterization and follow up with location of historic spills or tank releases. The UST site will require location of the monitoring wells that were used historically. |
