Problems/Comments
The three-inch diameter welded steel pipeline was built in 1985, and begins at a header connection at the old airstrip. The pipeline runs along the north side of Third Avenue for several hundred feet to a "T" junction. The pipeline splits at the junction, with a short section running northeast and terminating at the location of the Former City Power House. The remaining section crosses under Third Avenue and runs along the south side of the road to the Former City Diesel Tank Farm. Many of the pipe joints, valves have leaked over the years.

One of the areas was the diesel pipeline that runs through town. Locations that showed obvious evidence of contamination and all pipe joints, valves, and breaks were marked for screening. A total of 20 locations were screened along the pipeline corridor. Ten primary soil samples, one duplicate and one discretionary sample were collected from along the pipeline corridors. DRO exceeds its applicable soil cleanup level in three samples locations, all located near pipeline valves. One of the discretionary samples collect along the pipeline from a community member's former garden area had DRO levels up to 18,500 mg/kg and total xylenes at 135.7 mg/kg. Report covers multiple sites in Allakaket. | Deborah Williams |
