Problems/Comments
The gasoline tank farm was in operation from 1983 to at least 2003 and was abandoned by 2008. No releases were documented. A targeted brownfields assessment conducted in June 2009 took five samples of the tank farm (four perimeter samples and one central sample). Concentrations of GRO, toluene, and xylenes were found to be twice the ADEC Method 2 cleanup levels, and benzene exceeded the cleanup level by more than 50 times. Based on sample results in the 2009 assessment, hydrocarbon impacts at the Former City Gasoline Tank Farm are estimated to cover a surface area of at least 1,500 square feet.

3/21/2011 | Site Added to Database | A new site has been added to the database | Deborah Williams |
3/21/2011 | Brownfields Award | DEC reviewed and commented on the Targeted Brownfield Assessment ($21,573 EPA TBA funds expended for multi-site report) that was conducted in Allakaket. Five primary soil samples and one duplicate sample were collected from the Former City Gasoline Tank Farm area. All samples were analzyed for GRO, BTEX, DRO, and RRO. In addition, one sample was analyzed for VOCs, lead and PAHs. Four of the primary samples were located around the outside perimeter of the tank pad. Community members had indicated there was heavy contamination in the area of the gasoline tank, however no evidence of contamination was found around the tank pad or above the pad liner based on PID results. One sample was collected from below the liner. All samples collected around the perimeter of the pad were below DEC cleanup levels. The one sample collected below the liner had GRO up to 641 ppm, benzene up to 1.5 ppm, total xylenes up to 150.9 ppm and toluene up to 17.6 ppm. Report covers multiple sites in Allakaket. | Deborah Williams |
