Problems/Comments

Between June 30 and July 14, 2010, ten fuel tanks were removed from the BLM Alaska Fire Service Wildland Fire Operations Facility at the McGrath airport. The tanks consisted of six above ground and four underground tanks and were used to store various materials including fire retardant, avgas, heating oil, and water. Petroleum contamination remains at two of the UST locations, the Kitchen and Laundry facilities.

9/22/2017 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other Approved 2017 Report and 2017 Work Plan Addendum. Soil and groundwater investigations took place at the Bath Hall, Mess Hall, and landfarm. DRO was found in soil in one boring at the Bath House location 3-9 feet below ground surface ranging 1,000-14,800 mg/kg. In addition, DRO contamination remains above cleanup levels at the landfarm site. Soil borings from the Mess Hall and all groundwater samples were below cleanup levels. 2017 field work will consist of soil removal at the Bath House site to address DRO-contaminated soil and landfarming maintenance at the landspread that resulted from the 2014 Mess Hall soil excavation. DRO-contaminated soil at the Mess Hall location remains under the road and will have to be addressed in future work efforts. Gretchen Caudill
