Problems/Comments

The Hoonah Radio Relay Station (RRS) is a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS); FUDS project number F10AK012203; EPA ID AKN001002287. The Hoonah RRS was a tropospheric station for the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) and part of the White Alice Communication System (WACS). The facility served as a telecommunications relay link between WACS sites at Duncan Canal and Ocean Cape. Exposure area (EA) 4 is described in the decision document as: 500-Gal Gasoline UST Area, 7500-Gal Gasoline AST Area, and Stockpile Area. On 9/23/11 the Hoonah Radio Relay Station database entry was divided into four separate records. Original Hazard ID 1452 (Reckey 199211X119701) was renamed from Hoonah Radio Relay Station to Hoonah RRS - Main Cantonment, and additional database records were created for EA 4: PCB Soil Stockpile Area; EA 8: Septic Outfall; and EA 9: Debris Disposal Area.
