Problems/Comments
The Floating Pumphouse is located on Iliuliuk Lake. The lake was used as a drinking water source in the 1940's, and so the pumphouse was probably run by electricity to eliminate the potential for spills into the lake. Anecdotal reports of Iliuliuk lake and Unalaska Lake state that there may be drums at the bottom of each water body because of drum storage on the lake throughout the winter in order to allow them to disappear in the spring thaw. The pumphouse was tested for ACM in case it needed to be removed, which was determined to be present in the walls and piping. Two lake sediment samples in 2000 indicated multiple PAHs present above soil screening levels. Soil sampling at the power pole near the dock indicated no PCBs were present. Resampling of sediments in 2002 did not indicate PAHs present above sediment quality guidelines. Low levels of DRO were detected in sediments, but may have have biogenic interference. No surface water samples exceeded surface water criteria.
