Problems/Comments
UST 1854 is a former 2,000 gallon steel underground storage tank installed in 1986, approximately 15 feet North of Bldg 1854, and removed in 1998. A spill of unknown volume occurred at this site on September 21, 1993 due to a ruptured fuel line. Additional contamination may exist at this site unrelated to the 1993 release.
Three soil samples collected from the subsurface soil in 1999 at this site confirmed that Diesel Range Organics (DRO) occur at this site at concentrations below cleanup levels. ADEC recommended additional investigation to more completely characterize potential contamination and test for possible additonal contaminants. In 2001, two soil borings collected samples and determined that contaminants of concern do not occur at levels above ADEC cleanup levels.
This site was agreed to have cleanup complete status by acceptance of the -NO Further Action- recommendation in the September 2011 Preliminary Assessment Report, Former Galena Forward Operating Location, Galena, Alaska.
