Problems/Comments
In September, 2012, during trenching for utilities at the Gambell Street cell tower site, broken batteries and debris were discovered in soil from 1 to 5 feet below ground surface. Follow-up sampling found lead in soil up to 14,000 mg/kg and TCLP lead above the RCRA target level in several locations.

9/19/2012 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | Reviewed Site Investigation report for cell tower location off Gambell Street just south of 15th Ave. Ten soil borings were advanced to evaluate the extent of lead contamination after broken batteries were discovered during site prep work. 88 soil samples were screened using x-ray fluorescence, 55 samples were analyzed for total lead, and 16 samples were analyzed for TCLP lead. Two additional boreholes were placed into stockpiled soil at the site. Two additional samples were also analyzed for hydrocarbons. Lead was detected in soil up to 14,000 mg/kg. 8 soil samples had lead above 400 mg/kg and six samples were above the TCLP limit. Stockpiled soil did not contain total or TCLP lead above regulatory limits. Lead concentrations in soil above ADCE cleanup levels were limited to the eastern ¼ of the property, indicating lead contamination on adjacent properties is likely. | Bill O'Connell |
