Problems/Comments
On 7/20/2012, it was discovered that the soil compaction under a concrete sump at the Valdez Marine Terminal, East Tank Farm, Tank 14 had failed, allowing the upper and lower halves of the sump to separate. Over time, oily water leaked out of the sump. The bottom of the sump was below the catalytically blown asphalt liner beneath the tank farm and adjacent to a perforated CMP drain that is excavated into bedrock. Contaminated gravel was excavated to the edge of their trench protection. Contamination appears to continue towards the west along this 0.04% graded trench in the bedrock. The plume is probably co-mingled with the plume from Crude Tank 14 Containment, but free product in T14-MW1, T14-MW2, and T14-MW3 is associated with another source area (VMT Crude Tank 14 Containment; 1200.38.024), not solely this record. Addtionally, Bioventing and monitoring is conducted and reported under the East Tank Farm record (1200.38.017).
