Problems/Comments
On 5/15/13 it was reported that there had been a release of approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel from an aboveground heating oil tank at bunkhouse #1 on the Icicle Seafoods Wood River Facility in Dillingham. Apparently ground thawing caused the tank to shift and a line was subsequently broken releasing fuel to the ground surface adjacent to south side of the residential structure. Initial excavation was limited due to buried utilities and concerns about the strutural integrity of the bunkhouse. Contamination remains above DEC cleanup levels in soil and groundwater. Groundwater was encountered between 3 and 5 feet below ground surface.

2/19/2016 | Site Characterization Report Approved | Twenty-one cubic yards of impacted material were removed from the site in 2015. DRO contamination remains in place below the bunk house buildings. Four monitoring wells were installed, one in the source area (MW1), one south east of the source area (MW2), and two northwest of the source area (MW3 and MW4). The top of the well screens in MW1, MW2, and MW4 were below the top of the groundwater. DRO was detected in MW1 just above the cleanup level (1.52 mg/L). GRO and BTEX in MW1 and all other analytes in the other wells were below cleanup levels. | Lisa Krebs-Barsis |
6/16/2016 | Meeting or Teleconference Held | Teleconference with Icicle Seafoods representative was held to discuss the current status and future path forward on two sites in Dillingham. Immediate actions for source removal have been completed. Both sites are in remediation phase through in situ bioremediation. ADEC has requested that Icicle Seafoods sample the four monitoring wells for DRO in 2016 to confirm that contaminant levels are stable or diminishing. Annual soil cap and erosion monitoring at the Burn Area will continue. | Darren Mulkey |
12/16/2016 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | Reviewed the 2016 Groundwater Sampling Report. Four samples were collected and tested for DRO. All of the samples were below Table C cleanup levels. | Darren Mulkey |
