Problems/Comments

On May 2, 2011, during Spring thaw, a release of #1 diesel was discovered near above ground storage tank #5 at the Kiana AVEC power plant tank farm. The volume and the cause of the release were unknown. Contamination was determined to have migrated off site. DRO and benzene were confirmed above Method 2 cleanup levels. The tank farm consists of three 12,000-gallon above ground tanks (Tanks 5, 6, and 7) that receive #1 diesel through a pipeline originating from a tank farm at the western edge of town. This site is immediately southeast of the Kiana AVEC Former Tank Farm (Hazard ID 4620). Additionally, the City of Kiana Former Tank Farm is adjacent to the west south west of both AVEC tank farms.
