Problems/Comments
In August, 2010 regulated underground storage tank (UST) #7 (5,000-gallon diesel) was removed from the Fairbanks North Star Borough Transit Garage and Bus Maintenance Facility at 3175 Peger Road in Fairbanks. Following excavation, confirmation samples were taken and one subsurface soil sample from the sidewall below the former vent and capped fuel lines leading into the building had 589 mg/kg diesel range organics remaining. Ethylbenzene and xylenes were also detected, but were below the most stringent DEC cleanup levels. Approximately 262 cubic yards of contaminated soil were taken to OIT for thermal remediation.
