Problems/Comments
The Anaktuvuk Pass Research Camp at Chandler Lakes was located 25 miles northwest of Anaktuvuk Pass, Alaska, and 600 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska. Beginning in 1944 and continuing for 10 years, the U.S. Navy conducted oil exploration expeditions and stored supplies of gasoline at the site. A total of 130 drums and 700 fuel cans have been identified around Big and Little Chandler Lakes. This site addresses the 23 sites with drums, fuel cans, or other containers on land owned by the National Park Service (NPS). Additional sites with drums, fuel cans, or debris are on Native lands and are eligible for cleanup under the Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program (NALEMP). See Hazard ID 25980/File Number 365.38.004 for information on the NALEMP sites.
