Problems/Comments
In October 2014 DEC was notified of a fuel release at a residence at 1422 27th Avenue. The owner stated that an excavation contractor was hired to remove an underground storage tank (UST) around or before 2010, while the owner was on a remote work assignment. It is the owner's belief that the former system likely leaked and the contractor failed to notify the owner of a release of fuel from the UST. In 2014 seasonal elevated groundwater conditions (flooding) forced fuel product likely in the soil or atop groundwater to enter the crawl space and hydrocarbon vapors to enter the house. A ventilation system has been installed and recommendations were made by DEC to improve the system. A release investigation was completed, but the results were inconclusive. Further action was requested by the DEC. The house was sold in May 2015 prior to final results of vapor intrusion assessment.

6/17/2019 | Site Visit | DEC staff conducted a site visit to assess current conditions and meet with the homeowner. Well MW-1 was not visible and appeared to have been removed. Well MW-2 had frost jacked at least 1 foot and MW-3 looked to be in good condition. Indoor air was impacted by heating oil vapors due to a problem with the boiler. The crawlspace vapor mitigation system was operating and appeared to be controlling vapors beneath the vapor barrier. Elevated volatile organic carbon vapors were observed beneath the vapor barrier in the southeast and southwest areas of the crawlspace. DEC staff will meet to discuss a site closure pathway. | Shawn Tisdell |
8/19/2020 | Meeting or Teleconference Held | DEC talked with RP about current site status. RP has added another polyethylene sheeting to the crawlspace and sealed it up with acoustical sealant and vapor barrier tape. DEC requested photos of the crawlspace modifications. RP will also be adding insulation to the exhaust line. A site visit will be set up for later this fall. | Shawn Tisdell |
