Problems/Comments
In October 2014, following demolition of two buildings (the Former West addition, a maintenance shop, and the Former East Structure, a storage building), Tank #2, a regulated 1,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tank (UST) and associated piping were removed. The lot is currently vacant. The base of the excavation, after the tank removal, at approximately 7 feet bgs, exceeded applicable cleanup levels for gasoline range organics (GRO), toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes at 2,080 mg/Kg, 14.6 mg/Kg, 41.4 mg/KG, and 613 mg/Kg, respectively. Groundwater was not encountered during the excavation and is believed to be greater than 35 feet below the ground surface.

6/2/2015 | Site Characterization Workplan Approved | Reviewed and approved of site characterization work plan submitted by the RP's consultant. One boring within the footprint of the original excavation will be advanced to groundwater. No groundwater monitoring is anticipated for this investigation. Characterization work on the UST will be conducted simultaneously with work at the collocated heating oil tank site (2100.38.551). | Lisa Krebs-Barsis |

10/20/2015 | Site Characterization Report Approved | Reviewed the site characterization report submitted on August 18, 2015. Seven bore holes were advanced near the heating oil tank release. Groundwater was encountered at 35 feet below the ground surface (bgs). Diesel range organics at concentrations of 631 mg/Kg were detected at 30 feet bgs in Boring 6 (near the former dispenser and at the south end of the heating oil tank excavation) and 2720 mg/Kg at Boring 1 (within the former UST footprint). Gasoline range organics were detected at levels below the most stringent migration to groundwater cleanup level. A work plan to investigate groundwater was requested. | Lisa Krebs-Barsis |
11/13/2015 | Site Characterization Workplan Approved | Approved of work plan to install and sample three groundwater monitoring wells on Lots 25 and 26. | Lisa Krebs-Barsis |
1/29/2016 | Site Characterization Report Approved | Three monitoring wells were installed, two on Lot 25 (MW2, MW3) and one on Lot 26 (MW1). Groundwater was found approximately 35 feet below ground surface and was determined to flow to the north east. MW3 was placed in the source area. Samples collected from the each of the wells were analyzed for DRO, RRO, GRO, and BTEX. The sample from MW3 was also analyzed for PAH. None of the analytes were detected in any of the samples. | Lisa Krebs-Barsis |
3/21/2016 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | Reviewed groundwater sampling work plan for 619 East 5th Ave. Monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 will be purged and sampled for DRO, GRO, and BTEX. The sample from MW-3 will also be analyzed for PAHs. | Bill O'Connell |
