Problems/Comments
During the removal of an abandoned pipeline (2004) diesel range organics (DRO) contaminated soil was discovered under two vertical segments of the line at the location of a former above ground storage tank (AST). 585 cubic yards of impacted soil were excavated and thermally remediated. Elevated levels of DRO (1,230 mg/kg) remained in the excavation base beyond the reach of the excavator. Soils borings in 2010 determined the extent of contamination was limited.

The more restrictive “migration to groundwater” cleanup level applies to this site, since groundwater is used for drinking water. DRO was detected in soil above the approved soil cleanup level, established in 18 AAC 75.341 (d), Table B2. Groundwater has not been impacted by DRO. |
