Problems/Comments
In April 2015 petroleum-stained surface soil was discovered in several locations at the Fairbanks Natural Gas facility on Tracts C and D of the Tanana Levee Industrial Park subdivision. Phase I and limited Phase II environmental site assessments were conducted in May and June, 2015 respectively. Diesel range organics, residual range organics, and arsenic were confirmed present in surface soil above DEC cleanup levels. Limited removal action was planned for the east area vehicle track and the primary vehicle track in 2015.

8/5/2015 | Cleanup Plan Approved | DEC approved the "Limtied Removal Action Work Plan" which describes plans to excavate and dispose of stained soil at two locations. | Robert Burgess |
8/12/2015 | Site Visit | DEC project manager visited the site to observe excavation and sampling activities. Soil at two locations was excavated to approximately two feet. Field screening and confirmation samples were taken according to procedures described in the workplan. Scattered stains less than two feet in diameter were present in a few locations at the site; some of these had been tested in the Phase II assessment and are below cleanup levels. Any contamination remaining at the site is likely de minimis. | Robert Burgess |
9/21/2015 | Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other | Received Limited Removal Action Report from Shannon & Wilson. Approximately 8 cubic yards of soil was removed and 7 samples collected. The samples were analyzed for BTEX, DRO, RRO, and PAHs. No contaminants were present in the excavation limits above ADEC soil cleanup levels. The removed soil was treated at OIT. | Janice Wiegers |
10/30/2015 | Cleanup Complete Determination Issued | Final cleanup report indicated that no contamination remains above ADEC cleanup levels at the stained areas noted in the Phase II report. | Robert Burgess |
