Problems/Comments

The former Radio Range (RR) Facility is located approximately three miles outside of the City of Nome, along Beam Road on privately-owned land. RR Building 401, which was demolished in 2021, was a two-story structure that measured approximately 25 feet wide by 40 feet long and sat on 44 creosote pilings. There were five 140-foot towers associated with the RR. Over the years, Towers 1, 2, and 3 folded over with their bases intact and their upper portions on the ground. Towers 4 and 5 were demolished in 2021. All five towers were painted with red and white lead-based paint (LBP), which has flaked off across the surrounding tundra over many decades. LBP chips are present on the surface and embedded in tundra around the general area of the towers.
