Problems/Comments
This historical release was discovered on July 16, 2014 when a tarry substance was noted in the sidewalls of a construction excavation trench to the east of Building 1206 (Fire Station #1). The source of the spill is unknown. At the time of discovery, the sidewall was sampled and found to contain gasoline range organics, diesel range organics (DRO), volatile organic compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons above Method Two cleanup levels. Approximately five cubic yards of contaminated soil were excavated for disposal. Confirmation samples indicate soil left in place at approximately 4' below ground surface is contaminated above Method Two cleanup levels with DRO and residual range organics. The vertical and lateral extent of contamination is undelineated. As of 2016, Building 1206 is undergoing renovation, and emergency response staff are temporarily stationed elsewhere. Ultimately, the building will be returned to use as a fire station. The grounds surrounding the building are a mix of paved parking lot, cement sidewalks, and lawn.
