DEC and EPA jointly approved the "Technical Memorandum: Results of 2014 Sampling for PCBs in Sediment and Surface Soil at Source Area SS67 (Final), Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska dated 28 May 2015" (SS67 Tech Memo). The SS67 Tech Memo describes sampling of PCB-contaminated sediment and soil during 2014 at source area SS067, as well as soil samples taken at SS098. |

The U.S. Air Force (USAF) submitted a Phase 1/Phase 2 Source Evaluation Report (SER) for SS098 to DEC and EPA in accordance with Paragraph 8.6 of the Eielson Federal Facility Agreement. The SER describes sampling results at SS098 that confirm polychlorinated biphenyls in soil above DEC's Method Two cleanup levels. The USAF SER transmittal letter states that the USAF intends to proceed with the investigation/cleanup of the site under CERCLA, and that the site is programmed for a remedial investigation in FY16. |

The United States Air Force (USAF) proposed to put a hold on informal dispute resolution discussions for SS098. During the informal dispute resolution discussions, the issue of a deferred ecological risk assessment was identified. The ecological risk assessment for SS098 had been approved to be integrated with Garrison Slough source area SS062 The USAF, EPA and DEC Remedial Project Managers agreed that any further discussions should wait until a human health and ecological risk assessment have been completed for the Garrison Slough source area SS062. Once risk has been evaluated, further discussion of potential remedial actions for SS098 will be undertaken. |

DEC approved the Final 2025 Environmental Restoration Program Atlas, Eielson Air Force Base, AK, November 2025 on this date. The goal of the document is to present the Land Use Controls for the source areas at Eielson Air Force Base. The figures in the Atlas provide the Decision Document (DD) Controls, Base Administrative Controls, and ICs for each site, along with present groundwater plumes, restricted soil excavation areas, and contaminants of concern at the sites. The Restoration Atlas is required per the Institutional Control/Land Use Controls (IC/LUC) Settlement Agreement signed April 15, 2013. The Atlas was issued for the first time in 2017 and is updated annually. |

The Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska Remedial Project Managers’ (RPMs) Monthly Meeting took place virtually 27-28 January, 2026. Updates included: North Pole PFAS Public Involvement Planning coordinate, general PFAS investigation updates, site progress for CERCLA and petroleum only sites, upcoming OU Supplemental Risk Investigations, and remedial investigation documents currently under review. This site was discussed during the meeting. |
