Problems/Comments

Two underground storage tanks located in close proximity to one another were addressed during the site work in March 2015: a 675-gallon tank was removed and a 15,000-gallon tank was closed in-place. There is petroleum contamination in soil that was left in place due to a small work area/building foundation.

7/12/2016 Site Characterization Report Approved Approved the Vapor Intrusion letter report this date. The letter report states that the concrete and steel building is equipped with a roof mounted air handling unit. There is no vapor barrier in place at this time however the ADEC recommends that one be retrofitted if possible to further reduce the potential for vapor intrusion into the building. The report states that there is positive air pressure on the first floor of the building which reduces the risk of vapor intrusion into the interior living spaces. In addition, the first four (4) floors of the building closest to the petroleum contaminated soil are presumably occupied during business hours only and no reports of odor or air quality issues have been reported. Due to the non-residential use of the floors closest to the contaminated soil, the positive air pressure in the building, and the presence of an air handling unit, ADEC believes that the potential for vapor intrusion into the Marine View Building is likely to be low.
