Problems/Comments

In June 2012, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) had contractors investigate one injection well at the Manley Maintenance facility. One boring was advanced in the estimated proximity of the injection well and a single sample collected and analyzed for volatile organic compounds, semi-volatile organic compounds, and metals. Further removal of the injection well was completed Aug 15-16, 2016 where contamination was identified at the well, and at fittings between cast iron piping and wood stave piping. The IW structure was removed, along with sewer rock and contaminated soil in the vicinity of the well. Follow-up assessment is planned.

Due to the depth to groundwater, it is unknown if contamination from the injection system has reached groundwater. The ADOT &PF will coordinate and cooperate with the ADEC CSP to develop an appropriate scope of work to further evaluate the vertical and lateral extent of remaining contamination in soil and groundwater associated with the MVWDW.
