DEC and EPA jointly approved the "Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, Comprehensive Site Evaluation Phase II, USAF Military Munitions Response Program, Final Report" dated July 2015 (CSE report). The CSE report describes the investigation of potential munitions response areas and the designation of munitions response sites (MRSs) at Eielson Air Force Base. Based on the investigation, further munitions response action is recommended at four of the MRSs associated with Eielson. |

DEC and EPA concurred with the USAF in a memorandum to the site file dated 5 April 2016 that the requirements for a Phase 1 and Phase 2 Source Evaluation Report, as described in the Eielson Federal Facility Agreement (FFA), are fulfilled by the "Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, Comprehensive Site Evaluation Phase II, USAF Military Munitions Response Program, Final Report" dated July 2015 (CSE II Report). DEC and EPA further concurred that, of the sites described in the CSE II Report, four (i.e. Former Trap Range, Lily Lake, Anti-Aircraft Artillery 7, and Open Storage Area) require further investigation. The four sites will be incorporated into the 2016 Site Management Plan, and processed in accordance with the Eielson FFA and CERCLA. |

On September 25, 2019 a presentation was provided by USACE and contractors at a scheduled RPM meeting. The presentation described field operations, procedures, findings and efforts to ensure public safety during the investigation. USACE will prepare an RI report, which will include a Risk Assessment (RA) and recommendations for the path forward. |

EPA and DEC Approved the Final Remedial Investigation / Feasibility Study for the Open Storage Area (a) (DA995a), AAA Site #7 (FR970), Lily Lake (b) (TM973b) Munitions Response Sites, Eielson Air Force Base (November 2020). The goal of the RI was to characterize the nature and extent of munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) and munitions constituents (MC) contamination at the MRSs. RI field efforts consisted of analog geophysical surveys and intrusive anomaly investigations at the DA995a MRS – Southeast Area, DA995a MRS – Berm Area, FR970MRS and TM973b MRS. At the DA995a MRS – Berm Area, remote and standard excavators were used to dismantle the berm to facilitate analog geophysical surveys and intrusive anomaly investigations of the berm spoils piles. |
