Problems/Comments
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) former Flight Service Station (FSS) building at the Gulkana airport was built in the early 1940s and consists of a wooden frame built on top timber pilings with wood siding painted with white lead-based paint. Lead-based paint from the exterior of the building has chipped off onto adjacent soil. A total of 37.4 tons of potentially lead contaminated soil was excavated from around the FSS building in 2016. Confirmation sampling indicates all lead in soil has been removed.
