Problems/Comments
On December 31, 2012, a large sheen on Auke Bay was reported to DEC. Initial response actions included placement of boom at Fisherman's Bend marina. On January 2, 2013, the US Coast Guard identified the source of the sheen as a 675-gallon residential aboveground heating oil tank located at the Auke Bay RV Park. Field screening readings were high in the creek, near the tank. The tank had been filled on 12/19/12 with 390 gallons of diesel fuel and was empty when DEC visited on 1/2/13. DEC staff met with the RP and an environmental consultant to discuss cleanup.
