Problems/Comments

Hospital Loop Area (also referred to as part of AOC E3) is located directly off Airport Road near the junction with Cannon Beach Road (Figures 5-2A, 5-2B, and 5-2C). A section of the loop is formed by Quartermaster Loop Road and the area of concern is located to the southwest of the Quartermaster Loop Drum Dump. Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) environmental actions have not occurred at the former airfield hospital site. WWII drawings showed a Powerhouse, Standby Powerhouse (Backup Powerhouse), and a wood stave aboveground storage tank in this area. Petroleum and volatile organic compound contamination was found in soil above applicable ADEC criteria.

Based on the information provided to date, it has been determined that the contaminant concentrations remaining onsite do not pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment and no further remedial action will be required unless information becomes available that indicates residual contaminants may pose an unacceptable risk. Soil and groundwater contamination at the site have been cleaned up to concentrations below approved cleanup levels suitable for residential land use. One diesel range organic (DRO) result remaining exceeds the migration to groundwater cleanup level but no contamination above groundwater cleanup levels was ever detected.
