Problems/Comments

Khantaak Island Base End Station (also referred to as AOC F1) is located on the western side of Khantaak Island near Point Munoz. Based on a building inventory, the area of concern contained six buildings during WWII, including a Powerhouse and a Base End Structure. Petroleum contamination is present in soil above applicable cleanup levels.

4/14/2020 Cleanup Complete Determination Issued The ADEC Contaminated Sites Program received "Declaration of Project Closeout Decision for Yakutat Air Base Formerly Used Defense Site CON/HTRW Project F10AK0606-14 F1 – Khantaak Island Base End Station Yakutat, Alaska "on March 18, 20209. The ADEC Contaminated Sites Program agrees that this project closure is consistent with state investigation and cleanup requirements listed in 18 AAC 75. This is a project closure decision and not a site closure decision. Remaining contaminant sources and contaminant releases to the environment will need to be addressed in future projects at Yakutat Air Base. Rachael Petraeus
