Problems/Comments

In June 2010, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) had contractors investigate one injection well (SL-IW-4) at the Slana Maintenance Station. One boring was advanced in the estimated proximity of the septic tank and north of the original leach field. The investigation was determined to be insufficient to characterize the site. There are potentially other active injection wells at the site that will require investigation. In 2018, ADOT&PF initiated activities to address all injection wells, to include excavation, inspection, and removal of gross contamination. Upon completion of this work, three injection wells were described, as IW4, IW5 and IW6. IW's 4 and 5 are connected and could be deemed a single system, and were located south of the M&O facility. IW6 was located adjacent to the SW corner of the building and consisted of a buried perforated drum. Contamination was identified and gross visible contamination was excavated and removed at the time of IW decommissioning.
