Problems/Comments
In 1998 during the repair of a heating oil underground storage tank (UST 3-H-148) at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) King Salmon Housing Unit 48/49, diesel range organics (DRO) contaminated soil was detected at shallow depth. Less than 1 cubic yard of contaminated soil was removed during the repair. Subsequent soil sampling found benzene (3.9 mg/kg), toluene (14.0 mg/kg), ethylbenzene (41.9 mg/kg), xylenes (17.3 mg/kg), and DRO (7,620 mg/kg) above cleanup levels. Groundwater sampling results from a 2004 groundwater monitoring report were above cleanup levels for gasoline range organics (GRO) (2,200 ug/L), DRO (3,000ug/L), benzene (39 ug/L), and naphthalene (23 ug/L).
