Problems/Comments

On August 20, 1999 contamination was found during the removal of the floor drain and sand trap. Soil samples collected from the excavation had up to 30,000 mg/kg residual range organics (RRO), 4,900 mg/kg diesel range organics (DRO), and 0.21 mg/kg tetrachloroethene (PCE). 20 cubic yards of contaminated soil were excavated and treated. Additional contamination was found in October 2001 during the removal of the service station hoists and an additional 30 cubic yards of contaminated soil were excavated and treated. Monitoring wells were installed in 2007 and sampled until 2016. Indoor air sampling was conducted in 2017 and 2018 during frozen and non-frozen ground conditions. In 2018 the five site monitoring wells were decommissioned in accordance with an approved work plan.

10/24/2001 Document, Report, or Work plan Review - other On October 24, 2001 30 cubic yards of contaminated soil was removed to a depth of 7 feet at the October 17, 2001 test pit locations and confirmation soil samples were collected from the excavation. Excavation samples collected had up to 0.217 mg/kg total xylenes, 5.10 mg/kg GRO, 4,040 mg/kg DRO, 9,880 mg/kg RRO, 0.707 mg/kg PCE, 235 mg/kg lead, 4.37 mg/kg arsenic, 123 mg/kg barium, and 35.7 mg/kg chromium. 12/2/2019 Meeting or Teleconference Held Teleconference with Shell and their consultant (GES) to discuss closure options for this site: Closure with ICs (Environmental Covenant to be prepared by the RP, with review by ADEC and ADOL prior to finalizing it for signature) or Closure without ICs (sampling in accordance with an approved work plan of areas that exceeded RRO human heath cleanup levels 99M-3 and 99M-4 to demonstrate it is below those cleanup levels). We also discussed in either case we need a revised site figure that includes the areas of S4, S5, S7, and S8. Robert Weimer
