Problems/Comments
In the past, this site was used a small equipment shop. During a site assessment performed by Restoration Science in 1997, areas of petroleum impacted soil were noted on the shop floor. Contamination was related to former shop operations, mainly small containers of used oil, leaking hydraulic lines from serviced equipment , and a small 300 gallon aboveground AST. Last staff assigned was Palmieri.

2/6/2002 | Update or Other Action | Contacts with Phil Sullivan (8/7/01) at Restoration Science shows more work will occur during spring of 2002. He will be removing and moving soil, I reminded him to email me before soil movement so I can give approval. | Mike Jaynes |
8/5/2003 | Update or Other Action | Spoke with David Nyman at Restoration Sciences. David said RS will be finishing site excavation this week and collecting confirmational samples. We discussed site, sampling, etc. Told David to go ahead with work and document according to regulations. Emailed permission to transport soil to ASR in Anchorage. | Mike Jaynes |
9/15/2003 | Cleanup Plan Approved | Soil was excavated from the site during work in August and September 2003. Approximately 55 cubic yards of petroleum contaminated soil was taken to Alaska Soil Recycling for final disposal. | Mike Jaynes |
6/4/2004 | Site Closure Approved | Final confirmatory samples indicate the highest remaining soil and groundwater levels were acceptable under the Department’s Method 2 cleanup standard. Benzene was detected above the 0.02 ppm cleanup standard initially. Resampling of soils indicate benzene is non-detect, possibly indicating interference from equipment exhaust during excavation – this is acceptable to the Department. Remaining levels are as indicated: Diesel Range Organics (DRO) in soil: 255 parts per million (ppm) Residual Range Organics (RRO) in soil: 2,860 ppm Gasoline Range Organics (GRO) in soil: 22.8 ppm Benzene in soil: non-detect after resampling Toluene in soil: 0.0532 ppm Ethylbenzene in soil: 0.0918 ppm Total Xylenes in soil: 0.0907 ppm Diesel Range Organics (DRO) in water: 0.645 ppm Residual Range Organics (RRO) in water: 0.504 ppm Gasoline Range Organics (GRO) in water: non-detect Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylenes (BTEX) in water: non-detect Diesel Range Organics (DRO) in water: 0.645 ppm Residual Range Organics (RRO) in water: 0.504 ppm Gasoline Range Organics (GRO) in water: non-detect Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylenes (BTEX) in water: non-detect The Department agrees that an issuance of No Further Action is appropriate for this site. | Mike Jaynes |
5/26/2005 | Update or Other Action | File number updated from Fileroom 2100.38.410 | Aggie Blandford |
