Problems/Comments
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Communication Transmitter (CT) site is located in the central portion of Woody Island and was occupied by a Quonset hut (Building 201), an electronics building (Building 404), and an engine generator building. The engine generator building, located adjacent to and south of Building 404, burned down in the 1960s. All that remained after the cleanup activities were two concrete pads that previously supported four generators on four pedestals. Each pedestal is about 8.5 feet long, 3.8 feet wide, and 4.5 feet high. During removal and cleanup activities, fuel contamination was found near the pedestals (concrete pad) including diesel range organics in soil above DEC cleanup levels.
